11U / 12U / 17U Teams
Additional Lightning tryouts will be held on
Saturday 8/21 or Sunday 8/22 at Merryman Park (1800 Raffel Road) in Woodstock.
Lightning 11U - Formation of a 2nd
Team - Sunday Aug 22nd - 3pm-5pm at Merryman #6
Due to the overwhelming number of interested and talented players, the Lightning
has decided to form a second 11U team in our program for 2011. We appreciate that
almost 30 players tried out for the 11U Lightning. After discussions among the
coaches and interested parents, we are going to form a second team at the 11U level.

Lightning 12U Team - Sunday Aug 22nd
- 1pm-230pm at Merryman Park #6
The 12U team is looking for two additional 12U players for the 2011 roster.
Please join us at the tryout. To pre-register or for more information,

Lightning 17U Team - Saturday Aug 21
- 1pm-3pm at Merryman Park #7
The 17U team is conducting a final tryout on Saturday Aug 21st from 1pm-3pm at
Merryman Park Field #7 at 1800 Raffel Road in Woodstock.

Woodstock Lightning is a
travel baseball program based in Woodstock, Illinois. Lightning teams play
competitive travel baseball in the McHenry County Baseball League, the Mid-Suburban
Baseball League, and in local and national tournaments.
Open tryouts will be held on the dates below as we form our 2011
teams. Teams get indoor training, instruction from baseball professional baseball
trainers, a full regular season in local leagues with other travel baseball teams, and
attend regional / national tournaments. Our registration fees of only $575 are
amoung the lowest in the area and yet we provide a full service program due to our
terrific fundraising capabilities.
Highlilghting our 2011 tournament schedule is our 11U team playing
in the CABA World Series, our 12U team's trip to Cooperstown, and our 16U team is
scheduled to play at 16U CABA World Series at the East Cobb Baseball facilities in East
Cobb, Georgia, and is also making a return trip to the Buckeye Elite Showcase in Columbus,
Ohio after a top 8 finish in the 2010 tournament.
Players need to only attend one of the two tryouts listed below.
Player's age on April 30, 2011 determines the specific team for tryouts.
Baseball attire recommended for tryouts. All tryouts at Merryman Park, 1800 Raffel
Road, Woodstock, IL 60098 (just south of new Woodstock North HS).

Juan Acevedo joins
Woodstock Lightning as a Pitching Instructor
The Woodstock Lightning is very pleased to
announce that Juan Acevedo has joined the Woodstock Lightning program as a special
pitching instructor. Juan will work with all Lightning teams during their 2010/2011
indoor training sessions to train pitchers and work with coaches in preparation for the
2011 season.
Juan Acevedo was in the Major Leagues for 8
years with the Cardinals, Yankees, Mets, Rockies, Marlins, and Tigers. A graduate of
Dundee-Crown High School, Juan brings a passion for teaching young pitchers, an incredible
knowledge of pitching, and a professionalism that will benefit Lightning players and
teams.
We are very pleased to have Juan Acevedo
bring his expertise to our Lightning teams. All Lightning teams will receive
instruction from Juan as part of their Lightning training in 2010/2011.

College World Series MVP, & Marian Central Assistant Coach Craig Strang joins
the Woodstock Lightning
Woodstock Lightning is very pleased to
announce that Craig Strang has joined our program to conduct catcher training. Coach
Strang played at NAIA Bellevue University where Craig was a key member of their College
World Series Champion team. Craig was named the MVP of the NAIA Colleg World Series.
Craig is a coach and volunteer for Woodstock Little League, and he is an assistant
coach at Marian Central High School. We are please to have Craig lead our catcher's
training across all Lightning teams this year.

Jim Herendeen joins Woodstock Lightning as a
Baseball Instructor
Woodstock Lightning is very pleased to
announce that Jim Herendeen has joined the Woodstock Lightning program as a baseball
instructor. Jim will specialize in helping teams with defense, hitting, base running
and coach training. Jim has extensive experience providing instruction to
travel baseball teams, and Jim is an Assistant Coach at Marian Central High School.
Jim will work with all Lightning teams and
players as a special instructor during the indoor training season. We welcome Jim to
our program.

Jeff Marsalla, former
Division I Collegiate Player and Member of the New York Yankees Instructional League Joins
Woodstock Lighting
Woodstock Lightning is very pleased to
announce that Jeff Marsalla has joined the Woodstock Lightning program. Jeff will
provide defense and hitting instruction to Lightning teams during the 2010/2011 indoor
training season. Jeff played Division I college baseball at Florida Atlanta
University, and has professional experience as a participant in the New York Yankees
Instructional League. We weclome Jeff to our program.

Coaches for 2011
Mike Turner - Woodstock Lightning 16U
Coach Turner has extensive travel baseball Manager experience and has managed this
team since 2006. Team success in 2010 included a 22-11 record with two 2nd place and
two 1st place tournament finishes, and a Top 8 finish at the 56 team Buckeye Elite
Showcase. In 2009 Coach Turner lead the team to a MSBL division title and final 4
finish in the MSBL 54 team league tournament. Coach Turner's overall record is
159-84 (.654) and includes six 1st place tourney wins and three second place finishes.
Jeff Marsalla -
Woodstock Lightning 14U
Coach Marsalla has been named the new Manager of the Woodstock Lightning 14U team
for 2011. Coach Marsalla played Division I college baseball for Florida Atlantic
University, and played in the New York Yankees instructional league. Coach Marsalla
will also provide defensive and hitting instruction to all other Lightning teams as
a special trainer and advisor.
John Eisenmenger - Woodstock Lightning 13U
Coach Eisenmenger has been named as the Manager of the Woodstock Lightning 13U team
for 2011. Coach Eisenmenger has been actively involved in coaching for the Woodstock
Little League and the McHenry County Hurricanes.
Bob Salzman - Woodstock Lightning 12U
Coach Salzman has been named as the Manager of the Woodstock Lightning 12U team for
2011. Coach Salzman has been a long time volunteer in coaching roles, and was the
Assistant Manager for the Lighting 10U and 11U teams. Bob will be joined on
his staff by Jim Herendeen as a special baseball instructor & trainer for the 12U
team.
Mike Tromotola - Woodstock Lightning 11U
Coach Tromotola has been named as the 11U Manager of the Woodstock Lightning 11U
team for 2011. Coach Tromotola was the assistant manager of the 10U Woodstock
Lightning team in 2010, and has been actively involved in coaching in Woodstock
youth sports.
Jim Franklin - Woodstock Lightning 11U
Coach Franklin is looking to form an additional 11U Lightning team due to the
overwhelming number of interested and talented players who came out for the original
tryout. Coach Franklin has managed Little League and Lightning 10U, 11U and 12U
teams. Jim is an active volunteer and leader in the Lightning program. Jim is
also a member of the Fox Valley Blue umpire association.
Brad Alig -
Woodstock Lightning 10U
Coach Alig has been involved in youth baseball for 14 years as a coach and manager.
Brad has been an active member of the Crystal Lake American Little League
organization, and was the 2010 manager of the CL American Little League All-Star team.

About the Woodstock Lightning
Woodstock Lightning is a travel baseball
program based in Woodstock, Illinois. Lightning teams play competitive travel
baseball in the McHenry County Baseball League, the Mid-Suburban Baseball League, and in
local and national tournaments.
Woodstock Lightning offers competitive baseball programs that
include competitive games, full baseball rules (lead offs, stealing, dropped 3rd strikes,
etc.), and pre-season indoor training sessions at SportsCity Academy.
Woodstock Lightning is a full host site for the world renowned CABA
tournament (www.cabaworldseries.net ) .
In 2009, Woodstock Lightning hosted over 80 CABA games in Woodstock in the 9, 11,
and 15 year old divisions. As a CABA host, Woodstock Lightning receives automatic
CABA berths in the 9's, 11's and 15's year old divisions.
Our program fees are among the lowest in the area yet we provide a
full service travel program through innovative fundraisers. And we have
opportunities for players families to redue their costs to zero by offering credits for
fundraisers and business sponsorships you sell.
We play on some of the nicest fields in the entire area at Merryman
Park, Bates Roskie and even the Dream Field at Emricson Park for our older teams.
